RATIONALE
My 11th grade students were having a difficult and challenging time investigating and understanding The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and the complex issues that were involved. I challenged student groups to become master of a chapter within Huckleberry Finn
to present to other students using several different learning styles:
pictures (visual), summaries (verbal-audio), and re-telling the chapter
verbally through presentation with transparencies.
This became a very effective tool to help all students learn subject matter knowledge from various learning styles. It was a student-centered jigsaw activity that allowed students to become masters of their own learning while allowing the educator to engage in professional discourse with students about the topic, the book, during the presentations.
I have attached a copy of the assignment given along with a student sample.
